Meet the Guy Behind Five O'Clock Charlie Tours – It's Always Captain John
In today's world, it seems like every business wants to automate everything. You call a company and get a recording. You send an email and receive an automated response. You book a trip online and never actually talk to the person taking you out on the water.
That's never been my style.
When you call Five O'Clock Charlie Tours, you're talking directly to me, Captain John. When you send a text message, I'm the one answering. When you send an email asking about fishing conditions, dolphin tours, sunset cruises, or private charters, I'm the one responding. When it's time to schedule your trip, you're working directly with the captain who will be running your adventure.
There is no booking service. No office staff. No middleman.
Just me.
As I enter my 11th year in business, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on what has made Five O'Clock Charlie Tours successful and, more importantly, thank the people who have made it possible.
Eleven Years of Creating Memories on Tampa Bay
When I started Five O'Clock Charlie Tours, my goal was simple: provide safe, enjoyable, and affordable experiences on the waters of Tampa Bay, Anna Maria Island, Palmetto, Bradenton, and the surrounding Gulf Coast.
Over the years I've had the privilege of taking thousands of guests fishing, watching dolphins play alongside the boat, exploring local islands, and introducing visitors to some of the most beautiful waters in Florida.
I've watched kids catch their first fish and return years later as young adults. I've hosted families celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, retirements, and reunions. I've met visitors from all over the country who have become friends and repeat customers.
The one thing that has never changed is my commitment to making every trip special.
Safety Comes First
Anyone can buy a boat and call themselves a charter captain. What separates a professional captain is the commitment to safety and customer service.
Every trip begins with one priority: making sure my guests are safe and comfortable.
Whether you're an experienced angler chasing snook and redfish or a family looking for a relaxing dolphin tour, I want everyone on board to feel welcome and confident. From monitoring weather conditions to maintaining equipment and ensuring every guest understands the boat, safety is always at the forefront of every trip.
When my guests step off the boat at the end of the day, I want them leaving with great memories and a smile on their face.
I Still Love Every Trip
People often ask me after eleven years if I ever get tired of being on the water.
The answer is simple: not a chance.
Every day on Tampa Bay is different. Every tide is different. Every fishing trip brings new challenges and opportunities. Every dolphin tour offers a chance to see something unique.
One day we're watching dolphins chase baitfish. The next day we're fighting hard-running cobia. Sometimes it's the spectacular Florida sunset that steals the show.
I still enjoy every trip because no two days are ever the same.
There's something special about sharing these waters with people who may be experiencing them for the first time.
Keeping Charter Fishing Affordable
One thing I've always tried to do is keep my prices reasonable.
I know families are watching their budgets. I know vacations are expensive. I know there are countless entertainment options competing for your hard-earned dollars.
Many charter operators have raised their prices significantly over the years. While operating costs continue to rise, I've worked hard to keep Five O'Clock Charlie Tours affordable without sacrificing quality.
My philosophy has always been simple: I would rather create long-term relationships with happy customers than price myself out of reach for the average family.
That's one reason so many guests come back year after year.
Thank You to My Repeat Customers
The truth is that repeat customers are the backbone of my business.
If you've fished with me once, twice, or ten times, thank you.
If you've referred your friends, family members, neighbors, or coworkers, thank you.
If you've left a review, shared photos from your trip, or recommended Five O'Clock Charlie Tours on social media, thank you.
Your support has allowed me to continue doing what I love for over a decade.
Many of you started as customers and have become friends. Seeing familiar faces return season after season is one of the most rewarding parts of this job.
The Five O'Clock Charlie Difference
There are a lot of charter captains operating throughout Tampa Bay, Bradenton, Palmetto, and Anna Maria Island.
Many of them are good captains.
What makes Five O'Clock Charlie Tours different is the personal connection.
When you call, you get me.
When you have questions, you get me.
When you board the boat, you get me.
When your trip is over, I'm the one shaking your hand and thanking you for spending part of your day on the water.
That's how I've operated for eleven years, and that's how I plan to operate for many more.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who has supported Five O'Clock Charlie Tours over the years. Whether you've joined me for a fishing charter, dolphin tour, sunset cruise, island adventure, or simply recommended my business to others, your support means more than you know.
I look forward to seeing familiar faces again and meeting new guests in the years ahead.
Until then, I'll keep answering the phone, answering the texts, answering the emails, and doing what I love most—sharing the incredible waters of Tampa Bay with great people.
See you on the water.
