Fishing Rigs Used On Five O’Clock Charlie Fishing Charters

  • Carolina Rig: A Carolina rig is a rig with a slide sinker or bullet weight on the main line with a barrel swivel tied to the main line and a leader tied to the other side of the swivel. Then the hook at the end of the leader. This is a popular bottom rig used for targeting snappers, grouper, and other bottom fish. I have used these rigs on charters for years. Sometimes a plastic bead may be placed on the main line between the weight and the barrel swivel. It protects the line on the swivel from the weight. It also makes a noise and attracts fish

  • Knocker Rig: A knocker rig is simply a leader tied to the main line with the slide sinker placed on the leader above the hook. This is a common off shore and near shore rig. The knocker rig is a bottom fishing rig used primarily fishing structure. Cast it and let it sit on the bottom with the bait flowing freely, or drag it along the edge of structure to stir up the bottom.

  • Common Knot used By me on charters is the Uni-Knot the uni-knot is the most common knot I use to tie on hooks and to tie the main line to a leader. I have found this to be the easiest and strongest knot for fishing. To tie this knot follow instructions on “You Tube” or as follows:
